It’s electric (boogie woogie woogie…)
I just took drivership of a new 2008 Ford Escape hybrid. Let me just say that this is a very cool vehicle. It is also a little disturbing to see your tach go down below 0 when you’re driving. I love it when the car is idling at a light and it goes silent.
I’m experimenting with how/where I can successfully drive on electric alone. I have to go pretty slow and avoid big hills, but I can pretty successfully drive around home without having the engine kick in. Nothing but the whine of the electric motor.
In case anyone is curious, I am averaging just under 29MPG for these first 700 miles which is mostly highway.
I splurged the $65 for the AC outlet on the console and that was a very worthwhile investment. With all of the other stuff I have plugged into the DC outlets (GPS, iPod nano, iPhone, Bluetooth headset) I didn’t want to try to find room for a big inverter and now I can plug my MacBook Pro directly into the car. Yay!
