Several people have asked how to best run AppleScripts from Aperture.

Well, here you go!

First off, you should enable the Script Menu Item in your Mac OS X menu bar. This functions the same under Panther, Tiger and Leopard so it’s easy to write…

Scriptmenuitem

The Script Menu Item is the one in the above screenshot that looks a bit like a scroll- just to the left of the padlock icon. You can enable the Script Menu Item by launching the AppleScript Utility located in the AppleScript folder in your Applications folder. Open that and check ‘Show Script menu in menu bar’

Applescriptutility

You will now see the Script Menu Item in your menu bar.

Now launch Aperture and click the Script Menu Item -> Open Scripts Folder -> Open Aperture Scripts Folder.

Scriptmenu-Aperturefolder

This will open a folder for you in Finder. You can now place all kinds of AppleScripts into this folder. They will now appear in the menu and are very easily launched that way.

For what it’s worth, most of my scripts act on the currently selected Aperture images when run from the Script Menu. So just select the images you want to do something with and select the correct script from the Script Menu.

Happy shooting!
