Aperture 2 Workflow Tip: Deferred Editing
Aperture 2 only
Here is a tip from my newly modified Aperture workflow. One of the best new features of Aperture 2 is that you can now find images that have been adjusted and even find images based on particular adjustments. This is great for me because it makes my Aperture 1.x workflow even more powerful. Here’s how…
In my workflow, on my first pass, I rate images and apply a very select set of keywords to images. These keywords are what I call my QuickTags. They allow me to use Aperture’s keywords button bar to quickly assign certain keywords to images- even from the keyboard (mouseless first pass).

One of my QuickTags is ‘Editing Needed’. This keyword indicates to me that I need to do something more to the image before it is done. I used to have a Smart Album that contained images that had that keyword and then look at the images for the ‘edited’ badge. If it didn’t have a badge I’d do my edits.
Now, with Aperture 2 I can have a Smart Album whose criteria look like this:

For some reason the IPTC – Keywords Smart Album criteria doesn’t seem to work anymore.
Now all I need to do is check this Smart Album and I’ll never forget to do my edits.
Happy shooting!
