It appears that Aperture 3 now allows you to create a Vault on a file server. Previous versions would yell at you if you tried, but Aperture 3 is now happily creating a Vault for me on my backup server.
I expect it to take some time.

I love Maperture. The current version is free from Ubermind, but they have a new version in the works. I’ve blogged about geotagging before using the excellent HoudahGeo but use Maperture to geotag images that don’t have a corresponding GPS track log.
