Aperture

I love Maperture. The current version is free from Ubermind, but they have a new version in the works. I’ve blogged about geotagging before using the excellent HoudahGeo but use Maperture to geotag images that don’t have a corresponding GPS track log. Killerest new feature: geotag bookmarks. Go there now and give it a whirl: [...]

I’m not sure what the numbers mean, but I’ve been digging and have determined that at least for Canon cameras, the EXIF Flash tag will be either a 1 a 73 or a 25 (and possibly other numbers). The number seems to correspond to the age of the camera. My DSLRs and G10 all seem [...]

I believe that v4 should have resolved issues that some users were experiencing with v3 (http://brettgrossphotography.com/2008/03/04/aperture-applescript-make-keywords-real-v03) crashing Aperture. Make Keywords Real Current version: 04 Built on: Aperture 2.1 / Mac OS X 10.5.6 This AppleScript operates on the current selection. This is an update to the previous update and should work properly now. This AppleScript [...]

Hence these AppleScripts. The first one will export the metadata for all selected file. It will save the data to a text file with [...]

Updated August 18, 2008 (thanks Will!) Geocoding with Aperture before version 2 was almost a non-starter. With the addition of the ‘Update EXIF’ command it is almost too easy. Here are my tips for good geocoding on Mac OS X with Aperture and HoudahGeo. First off, you’ll need a GPS. I recently started using a [...]

Slimming your Library Recently I saw a posting to the Apple-hosted Aperture discussion forums about Aperture Library cruft. Apparently the poster discovered that if you delete referenced images from your Library the Library doesn’t actually get smaller. He had (naturally) assumed that the thumbnail images would be deleted and that the Library would be smaller. [...]

Snapshot Aperture Current version: 02 Built on: Aperture 2.1 This AppleScript allows you to select a number of Aperture Projects to export complete with master images. If a selected Project does not have all of its images online, the script will not export it and will tell you about it once it is done exporting [...]

It looks like Apple added yet more yummy goodness to Aperture with the 2.1 update. New to the Metadata menu is the ‘Update EXIF from Master’ menu item. You may ask why anyone would want to do this- unless you’re geocoding your images. I use HoudahGeo to geocode my images. HoudahGeo is a great and [...]
