I just can’t keep that macro lens off of my camera for long. Just last weekend we were clearing up some brush outside of our yard when Gina found some really interesting mushrooms. It was a rare moment for me as I could quickly grab the tripod and shoot some shots with a much smaller [...]

Well, we’re just over a week away from our departure for what will hopefully be the Southwest trip of a lifetime. After we’re done in the Wave on Tuesday we’ve got a tour of Antelope Canyon on Wednesday and then we’re off to camp in the Grand Canyon. We’ll then go up and see Monument [...]

I like to experiment with landscape vs portrait compositions. Sometimes the difference isn’t very substantial, at other times it can make the difference between something that goes to Flickr and one that stays hidden in the bowels of Aperture. Today I was looking through my pictures and found two that are very similar, but one [...]

Seriously, it is just amazing what the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens is capable of. It’s spring wildflower season here in Pennsylvania and Hera and I are having some wonderful walks! Of course, some will tell me that the dandelion is a weed. To them I say “Meh”

Updated August 18, 2008 (thanks Will!) Geocoding with Aperture before version 2 was almost a non-starter. With the addition of the ‘Update EXIF’ command it is almost too easy. Recently I saw a link for Pangea software’s new imaging software Bracketeer. Bracketeer allows you to quickly and easily merge several images into a single HDR-like image. HDR (high dynamic range) images are really great – but not easy nor cheap to produce. You must have another piece of software to do the HDR render. [...]

I’ve narrowed the field down to a few lenses and I think that I’m in the home stretch. The front runners are: Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0 L USM Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8… If price were no object then I’m pretty sure that I’d get the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 L USM. [...]

As a 40D owner, I can say that I am thrilled with my camera but not very happy with Canon. First the price drop (after I bought the 40D) and now they announce a 12MP Rebel. Grrr…
