Hi Brett,

thanks for the explanation. Now I understand what you mean and I will consider this idea especially after reading about your problems with faults in my future backup strategy.

Thanks you again

By snapshotting I mean to make a point-in-time backup. For me, this backup is stored off-site on DVD. My intent is to make a snapshot of each Project as I finish with it (my Projects are all time-based). That allows me to (in theory) do a restore to a known-good state.

The problem with Vaults is that they are full backups of the whole Library. If you have acquired a corruption (as I, sadly did) then your backups become corrupt from that point onward.

To snapshot your Library, just make a copy of it with the Finder. To snapshot a Project use File > Export> Project (and optionally include referenced masters). If you size your Projects to fit onto DVD then you can very easily store that in a semi-permanent fashion.

Hi,

could you please elaborate a bit on what you mean with snapshoting projects and how to do that.

Thanks a lot and good luck with your plan. I did something similar using ruby, xml and osascript to convert my iview lib to Aperture.

Hello.
I don't know how far you've gotten with finding out about Tiffen Dfx, but I do know there's a v.2 that's available for an unlimited 15 day trial.

I've had it for less than a day and am overwhelmed...to the point where I don't even know where to begin.

I've used glass filters during my short time photographing (8 years, more seriously for 3), and admittedly, there are a lot of filters Dfx has to offer. Many say it's complementary, instead of rival to Nik.

In any case, I am looking for advice on filters to use for wedding photography as I have my first wedding in April 2009. Thanks and good luck!

@Brent-

Funny you should say that because the Big Dig in Boston is one place where the paper map is a necessity as your GPS won't be able to see the sky.

To be sure, you're right about Hawaii. Once you're outside of a town you don't have a lot of opportunities to get very lost!

> What happens if you are on the Big Island of Hawaii and your GPS unit’s power adapter breaks (for example)?

Well... actually... there's really one road here, and it goes in a circle around the island... and it's not like you're going to cross a state line by mistake...

Getting lost in Boston is a better example. Nothing like drunken-cow paths to prove the value of a good navigation device, because even paper maps looks like a child's scribbling.

@Matthew-

I shoot Canon RAW almost exclusively and HoudahGeo seems to put the GPS metadata into my master RAWs fine. It may have been a glitch for you that day.

I always try to remember to shoot a picture of my GPS before I start a trek to make sure that I can more easily sync my camera and GPS's times. It really helps!

Hi there,
I have an AMOD GPS tracker which is tiny and has a USB port. I import all the imagery into houdahgeo from the card, then apply the track log and then save it all. I then save it into Aperture as normal (geocoded) However I recently did this without having confirmed my camera time first and nothing worked. So always confirm camera time with online time before setting out to do geo-coded stuff (it may also have been because I only shot RAW and Canon RAW apparently doesn;t support GPS embedding?!?!?!) In future I will shoot a JPG at the same time.
